Location: City of Waco, Texas, USA – Multiple Locations
Product: M60 (20ft) PowerStack solar pole for multi-application, M60 (20ft) PowerStack solar pole for security application
Integrator: Nemmer Electric
Year: 2024
Project: The City of Waco in Texas was looking for a way to deploy energy efficient security and lighting devices at a couple of key sites across the City. These sites included the Town Hall grounds and the Waco regional airport. The infrastructure would enhance safety and security at the selected sites.
Challenge: As existing structures and prominent community sites, both the Airport and the Town Hall were high traffic areas. Therefore any solution ideally would not require accessing underground electrical supply, which would mean groundworks, disruption and the associated time and expense.
The City needed a sustainable energy supply that could be deployed without impacting access to the sites or upsetting landscaped surrounding areas.

The Solution: Working with the integrator, Nemmer Electric and the City of Waco, PowerStack suggested a solution using their 100% off-grid solar power poles.
The poles, which use a fully integrated vertical design, have a low profile with no bulky external components. They also have the option to be installed using a concrete-free foundation and winch system. This drastically reduces installation times, and minimizes any disruption to the surrounding grounds, or normal operation of the sites. For these reasons, this approach was used for the PowerStack pole installed at the Waco airport site.
Finally, as a technology and brand agnostic system, the PowerStack poles could be deployed to run different technologies at different sites, tailoring to the customer’s needs for security, lighting, and communications. With each deployment, the end user and integrator had real choice and flexibility over the chosen brands and functionality.
At the Waco airport site, a 20ft PowerStack pole was installed to run a PowerStack designed LED luminaire for energy efficient lighting, and an Axis Communications multi-sensor camera. At the City of Waco Town Hall, a second 20ft pole was installed to run an Axis multi-sensor camera, with communications provided through CradlePoint cellular routers.
”The flexibility and ease of installation with PowerStack makes it such a great alternative to other options. The fact that you can get green power and choose your desired camera, light etc. AND it goes in the ground quickly - it’s a no-brainer in certain locations.”

PowerStack vertical solar poles can be installed with just two people using mainly hand operated tools. The system uses a specialised winch and concrete-free foundation that reduces installation time and minimizes disruption. It also makes it a breeze to install in remote areas or locations where vehicle access or concreting simply aren’t practical.
Watch for yourself to see how easy it is to deploy powered infrastructure, with PowerStack.
PowerStack’s unique modular, vertical design maximises sun capture across the entire day, from sun up to sun down. Unlike flat angle panels, which are only capturing during the peak of the day. While the solar energy is highest during this time, it’s also the hottest part of the day, which can cause issues with overheating and degradation of solar panels. Plus, with traditional fixed flat panel solar, during the winter months when the sun is lower in the sky, sun capture is lower and therefore the system becomes more unreliable.
Comparatively, each PowerStack system is designed based on the available sunlight hours during the shortest day of the year for your chosen installation site. This ensures reliable energy year round. The poles are also completely grid-independent, creating decentralised power supply where it’s needed. With a low profile and no bulky external components, it means PowerStack is designed to go where other power supply cannot. From project ‘black spots’ to remote locations, the PowerStack system is an efficient, sustainable way to deploy electrical infrastructure for remote monitoring, lighting, IoT and connected devices, phone charging and more.
