Solar Architectural Lighting Poles at Windrose Green

Location: Windrose Green Subdivision, Angleton, TX

Product: 38 x M60 (20ft/6m) PowerStack solar poles with integrated LED light arms for solar architectural lighting application

Year: Completed in 2023 (multi-year project)

Project Partners: Ember (Real Estate Investment and Development), Epinoza Electric (Installation)

Project: Ember, the developers for a 154 acre subdivision in Angleton Texas, Windrose Green, were looking for a way to deploy architectural street lighting. They wanted an off-grid alternative that complemented the design and aesthetic of the project and that didn’t rely on any form of grid connection.

The goal was to reduce the future HOA’s reliance on the utility provider’s ‘pay-per-streetlight-forever’ subscription model.

Challenge: Finding an ‘off-grid’ solution was a challenge, as many products rely on some form of grid backup, or have large battery storage units. These external components are bulky and were not practical for the design requirements.

Similarly, finding a lighting pole that looked good in the new community, and was manufactured locally in the US, was a challenge.

Sustainable power poles - Solar Architectural Lighting

The Solution: PowerStack’s vertical solar power poles provided the ideal solution. The poles are fully integrated, with all energy storage and distribution systems inside the pole, meaning no external components.

PowerStack has a very clean finished look, which worked well with the design of the development.

And they were a reliable power source too. Each system is designed or recommended based on the midwinter sunlight for the installation site. This ensures the system will produce enough power for the required wattage draw and runtime on the shortest day of the year, and every other day too.

Additionally, the PowerStack system could be installed using a concrete free foundation. This reduced the need for labor and time to install drastically, slashing project costs and timelines.

Thirty eight of the 20ft solar poles were installed, each in under an hour. The installations were completed by Espinoza Electric. The LED light arms were designed to specifically integrate with the PowerStack pole and these were installed as either one or two to a pole throughout the subdivision.  The outcome was enhanced nighttime illumination, sustainably run, which made the area safer and more usable for residents.

”We were looking for a way to integrate solar into our development in a way that was practical and didn’t look out of place. PowerStack’s clean finish, reliable power, and Made-in-America qualities made it the perfect choice for solar street lighting for our project.”

Energy efficient powered infrastructure - Rapid deployment

PowerStack vertical solar poles can be installed with just two people using mainly hand operated tools. The system uses a specialized winch and concrete-free foundation that reduces installation time and minimizes disruption. It also makes it a breeze to install in remote areas or locations where vehicle access or concreting simply aren’t practical.

Watch for yourself to see how easy it is to deploy powered infrastructure, with PowerStack.

How it works: decentralised power for solar architectural lighting, and much more.

PowerStack’s flexible modular design essentially provides a micro-grid for any number of low voltage DC applications. The poles are fully brand and technology agnostic, so end users and project teams have choice and control over what they want to power.

The system can be used to powered everything from CCTV cameras and architectural lighting, to mobile phone charging stations and IoT sensors. This, combined with the ease of installation and the sturdiness of the PowerStack pole design, makes it an attractive proposition for public, commercial and critical infrastructure.
