PowerStack off-grid solar poles provide a solution for powered mine site security infrastructure in New South Wales
Location: Cadia Valley Operations Gold Mine, Operated by Newmont Mining, in Orange, NSW
Product: M50 (5m) PowerStack system running bullet cloud cameras
Date/Year: 2024
Project Partners: Stax Security, PowerStack and Avigilon Alta H6SL Cloud Cameras supplied through Sektor, Newmont Cadia

Project: Cadia Valley Operations were looking to deploy mine site security infrastructure at a remote access point on their managed Gold Mine in Orange, NSW. They wanted to install CCTV to enhance safety and security for site users as there were workshops at the end.
Cadia Valley engaged security integrator, Stax Security to run this project for them .
Challenge: Being in a fairly remote location, the site location did not have access to traditional electrical infrastructure. So the Stax team needed a solution that could be run independently of the grid.
Given that weather in Orange can be at the extremes of heat and cold in Australia, particularly in such an exposed location, they also needed a power solution that was rugged enough to handle that environment.
The solution: Stax Security worked collaboratively with PowerStack, and Stax’s preferred supplier Sektor, to create a fully off-grid solution. This solution encompassed a 5m PowerStack pole with 3 modular panels (on all 4 sides) running two Alta Aviligon H6SL bullet cloud cameras, with a top mounted atenna.
The result was a connected CCTV solution that could be installed quickly and cost efficiently, and didn’t need any access to traditional electrical supply.
The PowerStack pole was installed using a concrete-free foundation that did not require access for heavy machinery or the costs and time associated with traditional concrete foundations. Added to this, the pole is wind rated to 250km/hr, has a temperature operating range from -20°C to +60°C, and uses glassless solar panels. So it’s well designed to withstand the rigours of this kind of environment.

”This was a location where accessing grid power just wasn’t possible. We needed a durable, reliable off-grid solution to power the cameras and network - PowerStack was the ideal choice. In remote locations like this, it really stands out in its class for easy power provision. ”
Kerry Aldridge, Director of Stax Security
PowerStack’s vertical, modular design enables maximised sun capture for each location. The vertical panels mean the pole is harvesting sunlight from sun up to sun down. Unlike traditional flat angle solar, which only captures during high sun hours, and is vulnerable to overheating causing a loss of efficiency during this time.
Each PowerStack system is selected based on the mid-winter sun hours for that location. So based on your running wattage, and the sun hours for your site on the shortest day of the year, we’ll work with you to decide which pole you need. The result is reliable off-grid power all year round.
What’s more, the PowerStack system is fully ‘tech and brand agnostic’ so you have huge choice over what type of device you want to run with PowerStack.

PowerStack is proud to work in collaboration with the technology brands and devices we work with, and everyone else across the project from the integrator, to end users and distribution or channel partners.

PowerStack vertical solar can be used to power a number of different technologies including security cameras, IoT sensors, lighting, help points and wi-fi networks. Aside from reliable power supply, vertical solar has numerous benefits for both the integrator and the end user. Here are a few of the key features that made PowerStack a standout for this project.
Reliable green energy that enables power supply in areas that grid power can’t reach. Providing 24/7 uptime, totally off-grid.
Rugged, weatherproof design with shatterproof, fire resistant, glassless solar panels.
Flexible modular, integrated design is technology and brand agnostic, giving the end user full choice.
No heavy machinery required, installed in under an hour by a 2 person team. Winches down for easy maintenance.
